Buying notes

What to check before you buy earrings.

Which earring specs matter most?

Metal, closure, and weight. A beautiful hoop with a weak hinge or heavy drop will sit in a drawer; a smaller solid-gold hoop with a secure clasp usually gets worn more.

When is plated okay?

Plated earrings are fine for occasional trend pieces. For daily studs, sleepers, or hoops, prioritize sterling, vermeil with clear specs, or solid gold to reduce irritation and finish wear.
